Stories That Gladden the Heart

Action Research Centre teams with the Mental Health Foundation

This project aims to alleviate the struggles and isolation of women who are experiencing mental health challenges in Melbourne, through storytelling. Due to childbirth, stress, economic situations, COVID-related isolation and domestic violence, women can easily exhibit symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic attacks or trauma reactions, on a short term or long term basis.

Women with the above mental health conditions often face so many difficulties in society, including social ostracism, rejection, stigma and shame. The effects of social stereotype often silence women, affect their relationships, and sometimes make them refrain from seeking help.

Through a careful selection of participants and ethical approval, the Project seeks to collect the stories of women who have survived a series of mental health challenges for the purpose of initiating hope for women who are currently struggling with mental health conditions.
